Clinton to Offer an AIDS Policy, Joining Her Main Rivals

Senator Hillary Clinton has proposed to spend at least $50 billion by 2013, where the Bush Administration has budgeted only $30 billion. She joins Barack Obama and John Edwards who have a similar plan in terms of spending, goals and differences with President Bush's AIDS policy. She plans to double the money for HIV/AIDS research at The National Institute of Health to $5.2 billion annually. The trio will not limit preventive strategies to abstinence-only sex education (which is what Bush has focused on). In the United States, 40,000 people are affected with HIV annually.

There is nothing more that I love than when people (especially government) pays attention to the health of our country. I think by Hillary Clinton standing up and saying she is going to spend a lot more money than anyone as before on HIV/AIDS research is amazing. Along with changing the healthcare of this country would be great as well as long as it works of course. There is one problem though, where in the world is all of this money going to come from? This sounds great on paper and out of her mouth, but will we be able to come up with the money to do so? Just like we talked about in class, the money would most likely have to come from a tax increase and we all know how much this country would love that. Great job Hillary, I commend you. But maybe a little more realistic is the better approach. This is by the way in no way turning away from trying to research AIDS/HIV but rather trying to figure out how we would come up with the money.
