Parents Who Spank Being Made Criminals
Can you believe one day if passed, that you as a parent might be labeled as a criminal for disciplining your children? Democrats in California are pushing for a law that would make a parent who spanks their child a criminal, place them on probation for four years, will be required to attend a nonviolent parental education class and be the subject of criminal court protective order "protecting the victim from further acts of violence." Many believe this is just outrageous and I agree. In my opinion, I believe the government is taking away any parental right that parent have for a misbehaving child. Basically, this gives the child control over the parent. I am sure this makes those considering a family think twice. If passed, the government will be faced with a lot of problems. What are your thoughts? Do you agree or disagree with the law?

I believe that this type of interference from the government is absurd and ridiculous. I can understand the state wanting to crack down on abuse, but taking away a parents' way of disciplinary actions is another thing.
Until there is evidence that spanking may be out of control, the government should respect peoples' rights to structure their families the way they want. Every child is different and needs different methods of discipline and saying that a parent can't do this if they choose is unfair.
In that case, I believe the government should come up with a program for parents to send their children when they misbehave, since they are taking away the right to raise children the way they want to. LOL!
I would have to agree that this takes away rights of the family. Broken bones or a bloody lip because of a spanking is much different than a smack on the hand. I am not saying I will definitely spank my child, but I am saying I want to be able to if I so choose. However, I can see how some would view this law as beneficial. Domestic violence and child abuse cases can, in many instances, be prevented. Many times spankings can turn into worse things over time and the lawmakers may see this as a step in the process of stopping child abuse.
This is just an outrageous and ridiculous idea by the government aimed at making innocent parents criminals just for disciplining their children. How are children going to learn? While many are averse to spanking, many are "for" this type of punishment. Parents should know the boundaries when it comes to disciplining their children. I agree with the comment made that if parents are subject to being criminals for spanking their children, children will have the uppper hand over their parents and this should never be the case. The government definitely needs to reevaluate how far they go when it comes to what's best for children and how they are to learn when they do things wrong in the eyes of their parents. Every child is unique and needs disciplining differently but not to the extent that their parent(s) is called a criminal for spanking their child.
It would be a sad day in the united state when the government can tell us how to raise our children. I do not agree with this law at all; it should be up to the parent to feel free to discipline there children any way they will not. With out hurting them or leaving bruisers on them.
I say they should go ahead and criminalize spanking. Why not? The government usually knows and does what's best for families, right? And when the foster care and social service systems are flooded with children of "abusive" parents and the juvenile courts are overrun with deliquents whose parents were too afraid to discipline them, hopefully the government is willing and able to foot the bill.
I forgot to mention that taxes are going to need to increase to support the new jails that will need to be built to support these new criminals, as are prisons are already operating above capacity.
